The holidays are officially upon us. I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t exactly feel like the holidays to me. Probably because of the stay-in-home order that New Mexico is currently under until the end of the year, or maybe it’s because no one is really in a holly jolly mood.

And who can blame anyone who’s not feeling festive? I mean, 2020 has pretty much been a disaster, and we’re anxiously waiting for the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve to be done with it.

Even though the holidays have been affected by the pandemic, people across the country are still trying to find a way to keep the holiday spirit and stay positive. In fact, earlier this year, many Americans were putting up their Christmas tree in an attempt to have some happiness during the initial days of the pandemic and quarantine.

Traditions Are Important

While putting up a Christmas tree in the spring isn’t exactly typical, or even traditional, it was still something that many people needed to feel a little better about staying home all day. Speaking of traditions, are you practicing any family traditions now that we’re in the actual holiday season and quarantined at home again? What kind of traditions does your family have?

For this blogger, some of our family traditions include decorating the tree. Many families do it either on Thanksgiving or even the day after. My family doesn’t have a particular day that we do it. Honestly, we just get the tree up on a day that we have the energy to dig through the decorations and get the tree set up. Also, we usually have Christmas music playing while we decorate the house and tree.

On Christmas Eve, my mom and I would start wrapping presents while watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” on TV. We’d then stay up into the wee hours finishing wrapping presents for the entire family.

Christmas morning growing up consisted of us making an applesauce breakfast cake to have with coffee while we opened presents. My nieces would tear through their presents (of course), and the adults would casually open theirs and joke with each other. My dad’s favorite tradition with Christmas morning is probably recording the entire event. It must be a dad thing.

Some Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling Holiday Traditions

Every year, the team with Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling sets up two Christmas trees in the office: one in the lobby and one in our large room where we had conducted company meetings pre-COVID. The trees are decorated and admired for the month of December, and Secret Santa gifts are left under the tree in the large room.
