The comedian Chris Rock has a joke from a standup special he did in the 90s called “Bigger and Blacker,” about the difference between mom and dads. Don’t worry, everyone – I’m gonna clean up his standup and take out the curse words.
He asserts, “Nobody ever says, ‘Hey daddy, thanks for knocking out this rent! Hey daddy, I sure love this hot water. Hey daddy, it’s easy to read with all this light.’” I mean, he’s not wrong that dads don’t always get credit for taking care of the household.
He goes on to say that the dad does everything that the family could ever ask for, such as paying the bills, buying the food, putting a roof over their heads, etc. He finishes this joke/point by saying, “And what does daddy get for all his hard work? The big piece of chicken. That’s all daddy gets!”
Father’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s more than a day to let dad have the big piece of chicken. It’s also a day to let dad just relax and let other people take care of him. Whether or not he lets you is one thing, but hopefully, he does.
What To Get For Your Dad This Father’s Day?
Every year I ask my dad what he wants for Father’s Day, and all he ever asks for is a card or a phone call. He doesn’t want gifts, but I still get gifts for him from my little family. I usually get stuff for him from my son that has the word “Opa” on it because it’s German for grandpa. This year, I bought him a shirt and a sign that both reference the name Opa.
What are you doing for your dad or father figure for Father’s Day this year? Are you gonna take over the grill for a day? Will you take him out to dinner? Whatever you do for the man in your life, he will appreciate it.
We have many fathers with Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling. They support their families with the hard work they put in every day, and we’re happy to support them in return. They’ve definitely earned their big piece of chicken a few times over.
