I love this time of year. I really do love spring. Why? Well, it’s warmer outside during the day, I can open windows in the house to allow fresh air in, and I don’t need to have my furnace running day and night. It’s a lot like a scene from the movie, “Miss Congeniality,” where a beauty pageant contestant is asked about her ideal date. Her answer was, “I’d have to say April 25th. Because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.”
Funny movie quotes aside, another reason I like spring is that it feels like another chance at change. For me, it’s a second chance at improving things. I consider New Year’s a time to improve myself, but spring is the time to improve my home and my workspace.
I remember that during the late spring/early summer of 2020, I thought my house looked okay. I had returned to the office part time and also worked from home part time. Then there was one day I walked across the street to the mailbox, and as I came back through the front door, I really noticed the mess that was actually living alongside me and my son. I decided in that moment that I was going to clean my house from top to bottom.
And clean I did! And I felt so much better afterwards!
Getting A Head Start On Spring Cleaning
I’ve already started on my spring cleaning this year. A few weeks ago, I did a major clean of my house where I dusted, vacuumed, threw away things I don’t need anymore, cleaned floors, and more. Now I’m just trying to stay on top of the maintenance of keeping it picked up. Some days are easier than others, especially with having a very active kiddo in the house.
As for my desk at work, I’ve started cleaning that too. I realized I had a lot of papers and such that I wasn’t using anymore and had no use for. I filled up my trash can, and I still have more to get rid of. I also wiped off my desk with bleach wipes and anything else I touch on my desk, like my keyboard and mouse. I want my workspace to be as clean and free of clutter as possible.
How’s my workspace at home? Well, that’s a different story. I can sit anywhere in my house and work. I don’t have a designated spot to handle my tasks. I have a desk set up in my guest bedroom, but that room desperately needs to be organized. Eventually I’ll get that room and the desk to a point where I can work in there and keep everything in one spot and not move it around my house. Fingers crossed I can make that happen in the near future. But for now, my work mess travels with me wherever I go around the house.
Don’t Shy Away From Making Home Improvements In The Spring
I’m also looking to make some home improvements this spring. What am I planning on doing? Well, for starters, my house doesn’t have a single ceiling fan. Also, the back door is missing a sliding screen door. I have no idea why. Thankfully, that’s an easy trip to Home Depot or Lowe’s, and the swipe of a credit card.
On top of that, I’m going to install a water treatment system in my home this year too. There’s hard water in the area I live, and I’ve decided against doing a water softener or water conditioner for the home. Instead, I’m going to have something called Hydroflow installed. This will require zero maintenance on my part, which is something I love! The easier, the better!
Have you started your spring cleaning? Are you dreading it, or are you looking forward to it? What kind of home improvement projects do you have planned?
Whether it’s at home or the office, our team members with Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling are beginning to get into the spring-cleaning fever. They’re deep cleaning their space, getting rid of dust bunnies and purging unwanted or unnecessary items occupying too much room. All of this adds up to a cleaner home and workspace, and hopefully more time spent doing something fun! After all, we can’t clean all day, right?
