Winter is settling in and temperatures are dropping rapidly. If you haven’t already unpacked all your winter clothing, you are tougher then us. Actually, who cares about the winter clothing, why don’t you just crank up the thermostat and get some heat running in your home!? That sounds better. Now that you are warm and cozy, have you ever thought about how your home heating system works?
Furnace Familiarity
Most modern home central heating units are powered by a furnace. The furnace creates heat through the combustion of natural gas. It uses this heat to warm powerful heat exchanging coils. The central heating system then uses a fan to pass air over the heated coils warming the air. The air is carried throughout the home through the duct system, and everyone inside gets all warm and toasty.
Benefits and Concerns
Depending on how new your heating system is, it could either be extremely energy efficient, or a massive energy hog. If you have an older heating system, it might be a good idea to schedule an inspection with a qualified HVAC professional. They can perform an inspection and a tune-up which will help increase in the efficiency of your system.
Other Central Heating Information
Did you know that your central heating unit actually places a crucial role in the air conditioning process as well? Not only does your HVAC unit warm or cool the air in your home, it also helps to clean it. When you HVAC system is running, it draws air out of the rooms of the home into the air ducts where it then passes through air filters. These filters remove debris and microscopic pollutants. It is important to note that these air filters do need to be changed on a regular basis, probably every 2 months or so.
