HVAC: To Clean or Not to Clean?

Are you debating whether to clean or not to clean your air ducts? Cleaning your air ducts will keep your heating and cooling systems working at their best.  Over time, dust and pet hair gets sucked up into your vents and deposited.  Those deposits keep the air from flowing freely through the ducts, and the heating and cooling systems have to work harder to push the air.  This taxes your heating and cooling systems and could lead to them wearing out faster.  Cleaning your air ducts also helps to reduce allergens in your home.  We recommend getting your ducts cleaned at least once a year.  You may also want to consider cleaning your ducts when changing from heating to cooling.

When To Clean Your Air Ducts

You should consider having the air ducts in your home cleaned if:

  • There is substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system.
  • Ducts are infested with vermin, e.g. (rodents or insects).
  • Ducts are clogged with excessive dust and debris, and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.
