Talk with your kids about your home’s energy savings plan and how they can help by:

They are remembering to turn off lights (or don’t use them if they don’t need to).
Take quick, warm (not hot) showers.
I turn off the water while brushing my teeth and washing my hands.
I am not adjusting the thermostat (after a grown-up has set it at an energy-saving 76 degrees).
Have “inside camping” or “explorers” nights where you use LED candles and flashlights instead of overhead lights.

What the Grown-Ups Can Do

Take a good look at where most of your energy dollars are spent and adjust by:

Unplugging and limiting the use of larger electronics (TV, desktop computers, etc).
Making salads, smoothies, or sandwiches for dinner instead of using the oven or stove.
If you make something warm, use the microwave, instant pot, or toaster oven (they all get the job done quickly with less heat output).
Washing as much as possible in cold water.
Hanging clothes out to dry in the sun instead of using the dryer.
If you use the dryer, put a dry towel in to help decrease dry time.
Turn off the heated drying for the dishwasher.
