Each year, on Dr. Seuss’s Birthday, there is a nationwide event to promote reading and literacy; It’s time to Get Ready for Read Across America!
“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss knew how important reading is, and spent his life creating fun books for kids. So, on his birthday (March 2nd) the whole nation celebrates his passion for children’s reading. We here at Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling also know how very important literacy is. And we have some suggestions for how you can celebrate Read Across America Day, everyday!
At Home
This is simple ~ READ TO/WITH YOUR KIDS. There is a direct correlation between how much a child reads at home and success in school (this is true all the way through high school).
In the Community
Check your local library and bookstore for Read Across America events. If you can’t find one, create one! The National Education Association (creators of the initiative) have lots of great ideas on their website. It doesn’t have to be on March 2nd; any day you help promote literacy is a great day.
Across America
Use social media and the web to spread information and learn more about literacy programs. Remind your friends and family (online and in real life) to implement reading into their children’s lives.
And Remember…….
You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild,
To pick up a book and read with a child.
You’re never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you’ve got.
In schools and communities,
Let’s gather around,
Let’s pick up a book,
Let’s pass it around.
There are kids all around you,
Kids who will need
Someone to hug,
Someone to read.
Come join us March 2nd
Your own special way
And make this America’s
Read to Kids Day!
