Are you less than satisfied with the electrical efficiency of your home? Do you think you’re paying more than you should for electricity? Would you like to receive a very inexpensive—or even free!—energy “checkup” by Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), the state’s provider of electricity?
Thought you might. The checkups, which cost only $40 for most PNM customers and are free for those with restricted incomes, consist of an on-site, customized consultation and evaluation of your home’s energy use, together with suggestions as to how you can modernize your electric fixtures and appliances and lower your electricity use. The checkups also include rebates if, as a result, you decide to buy Energy Star® appliances, which are among the most energy-efficient available.
Since 2007, when New Mexico passed the Efficient Use of Energy Act, which committed PNM to achieving 5% savings between 2005 and 2016, nearly 2,000 individual and business customers have taken advantage of the company’s numerous efficiency programs, including the energy checkups. By the end of 2015, these programs had saved PNM almost 1.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, enough to serve some 224,000 homes for a year; it has also saved 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide and 685 million gallons of water. The company has paid more than $34 million in customer rebates for retrofits, upgrades and new energy construction.
The only downside to all this efficiency is that PNM no longer collects enough revenue; that’s why your electric bills have been going up. All the more reason to let PNM help you get your electrical efficiency up and your costs down! Contact PNM online (pnm.com) to schedule a checkup right away.
The energy checkups are just one of PNM’s energy efficiency programs. See our post below for descriptions of some of the others. You may want to take advantage of them too!
