Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and it has thrown me off. Usually around this time of year, I’m having to check, double check and then triple check the spring holidays. Easter, Mother’s Day and even Father’s Day seem to move around willy-nilly on the calendar every year.
I reminded my siblings that Mother’s Day is this weekend, and they all had the same reaction when I told them – “That’s NEXT weekend?” We then discussed what we’d do for Mother’s Day, if we’d all meet at my parents’ house for the day, what the menu would be, and what our mom would like as a gift. Then, at the end of it all, it still wasn’t clear whether or not we’d celebrate Mother’s Day together as a family or not.
Typically, Mother’s Day isn’t a day that we make a big fuss over. If the whole family gets together, neither me, my mom nor my sister-in-law will clean the kitchen or do any housework. My dad will cook the meal and recruit my brothers and my nieces to help clean up. Cards are exchanged, maybe flowers too. Then at the end of the day, we leave and return to our respective homes to prepare for the work week ahead of us. Like I said, it isn’t a day that gets a big fuss from us.
What To Get My Mom For Mother’s Day
Until this past weekend, I had no idea what I was going to get for my mom and my son’s paternal grandmother for Mother’s Day. I had done so much browsing on the internet for gifts for both of them that I hope they will like, but it wasn’t until recently that I finally bought something for them. Sometimes it can be hard to shop for my mom, and I never know what my son’s other grandmother would like for a gift. Both grandmothers will say that they don’t want or need anything, but they still appreciate the thought.
In the past, I’ve received a few things from my son for Mother’s Day. His paternal grandmother will take him shopping to get me a balloon and a card for the day, and he will proudly present me with the gifts. It puts a smile on his face, and mine.
How will you celebrate the mother figure in your life? Will you buy them flowers and visit with them? Do you live far from them and need to do either a phone call or video chat? Whatever you do and however you take the time to recognize everything she has done for you, she will appreciate it.
We have many mothers with Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling, and each one talks about their kids daily. From their accomplishments to the things they do that frustrate them. But at the end of the day, each mother is incredibly proud of their kids and love them to pieces. We wouldn’t trade our sticky and amazing kids for anything!
Take time this weekend to celebrate the mother figures in your life. Give them a big hug and kiss. They deserve it for all the years they look after us, take care of us and for letting us survive our teen years.
