“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” – The 14th Dalai Lama
February 17th is Random Act of Kindness Day, and this is a day that can be celebrated every day of the year. Here’s some ideas of what you can do on this day, and any day:
Give a compliment to others. Is someone rocking an amazing outfit, or get an awesome hair cut? Did they do an awesome job on a work presentation? Tell them! You’ll see how quickly a smile is put on their face, and that compliment is something they will carry with them that day and for many more days.
Help a friend or neighbor with a chore or task. This is something anyone can do. We all have a friend who might need a little support or help with their chores around their house. For example, when I was getting ready to move a couple years ago, I was trying to get my house ready for the real estate photographer. My best friend came over and helped me pack and clean without me asking. It completely took me off guard, but I appreciate it to this day.
Send a greeting card to someone who’s feeling down or needs to be cheered up. Sure, this might sound kind of old school to send a card. But hear me out on this. Do you remember the last time you got a card with a handwritten note inside? How about a sticky note from a coworker who just wanted to make you smile? If you know someone who needs to be cheered up, sending them a card could be the thing to brighten their day.
Small Acts Of Kindness
Take a meal or baked goods to someone. There are days when we’re so busy that cooking a meal seems to be too much or downright exhausting. It can be nice and helpful to provide a meal (yes, even a casserole) to someone who might need the assistance. Here’s another personal story of a random act of kindness. And it includes baked goods. When I was in middle school, I once received a “heart attack” from a friend. There were paper hearts all over our front door, paper hearts on our patio, as well as a bag full of cookies. One of the paper hearts on our front door had a message about being the victim of a heart attack, but it didn’t say who it was from. After a brief storytelling at school the following Monday, it was revealed to be a friend of mine who just wanted to do a random act of kindness. I’m in my mid-30s now, and I still remember that to this day and how great it made me feel.
Now, I’d be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to brag on a couple of our team members and their recent act of kindness. We received a phone call from someone who saw two of our team members take a minute to help someone in a wheelchair cross the street. They did this to be good Samaritans and to help a fellow New Mexican. They didn’t think anyone noticed, but someone did and wanted to tell us about it.
We’re Proud Of Our Team Members
We’re proud of our kind and generous team members here at Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling, and we are always looking for way to show kindness towards others and each other. These ideas are just a tip of the iceberg. You can show kindness with something as simple as holding the door for someone else, or helping a child tie their shoes. We encourage you to perform a random act of kindness this weekend, and every day if you’re able to. Seeing everyone else happy and smiling will brighten your day and make you smile too.
