If you’re an avid reader of our blogs (fingers and toes crossed that you are), then you know that we support the trades and people joining them. Not just because our field of expertise is part of the trades, but because of the gainful employment.
The unfortunate reality of the COVID-19 pandemic is the sheer number of unemployed Americans across the country. People wondering how they’re going to feed their families or pay their bills. If you’re one of the many unemployed New Mexicans, what would you say if I told you that we’re hiring, and this is a great company to work for?
A Truly Great Place To Work
I’m sure at this point you have a cocked eyebrow and saying to yourself, “Well, of course you’re saying it’s a great place to work. You’re probably being paid to say that.” Full disclosure, I’m not paid to say how wonderful this company is to work for. I had heard how great Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling was from a close source, but even I didn’t believe it until I was hired.
I was skeptical…absolutely. I had worked for professional offices that claimed that you “were part of the family.” Have you heard this before too? Did you really feel like you were part of the family? Neither did I. How about the malarkey that you were a “valued team member?” Yeah, I’ve been fed that line too on Administrative Professionals Day, when the employer feels obligated to acknowledge you in some way.
But here’s the amazing part of the story. I came on board with the company, and I was amazed at how different it truly was from every place I’ve ever worked. It was encouraged to have fun and still get the work done. We have t-shirts with butt cracks on them (plumbers’ joke – get it?). When you’re told you’re part of a team, it’s real! Even the owners don’t like to call themselves “boss.” They tell everyone that we’re not employees. We’re team members. That we don’t work for them, we work with them. When was the last time you worked anywhere with that kind of mentality?
What Makes Working For Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling Different?
You’re probably now wondering what could they possibly offer that’s different from any other business? Sure, there’s the health and dental insurance and PTO. But you can also sign up for AFLAC, even if you work in the office. But here’s how they stand out from the crowd:
- At the end of the year, the owners take the profit sharing and divide it amongst the other team members. That’s right – they don’t keep all of that for themselves!
- If you’re a parent and are torn between working to make sure the bills are paid and needing to be with your kid(s), no worry. Children are welcome in the office every day and can often be seen in the halls.
- Can’t stand the thought of leaving your four-legged companion Fido at home? Bring him to the office too!
They also understand that people make mistakes and that we’re only human. They can work with that and help you to learn your job. What matters to them in these teaching opportunities is if you are learning what you need to and making strides towards never making those same mistakes again. But the most important thing to them is admitting when you’ve made a mistake. Again, you’re human, right?
Are you stuck in a dead-end job, where you don’t make enough money to survive, and you keep hitting a glass ceiling? Do you already hate being at work when the alarm goes off? Are you unemployed and wanting a career change? This could be the change you’re looking for!
